Joint Statement of the Director General of the Royal Institute for International Relations (Kingdom of Belgium) and the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan

Brussels, 11 February 2009

In according to the preliminary agreement and in the framework of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Kingdom of Belgium and European Union, the Director General of the Royal Institute for International Relations (Kingdom of Belgium) and the Director of the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan organized a meeting. As the result of the meeting, where the matters of interest for both sides were discussed, they underlined on the following:

Between the Kingdom of Belgium and the Republic of Tajikistan had been created a relevant legislative base in bilateral and multilateral levels, especially, Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, establishing a working partnership between the European Communities and their member states, of the one part, and the Republic of Tajikistan, of the other part signed in Luxemburg on October 14, 2004, which was ratified by the Kingdom of Belgium on April 2008.

Periodically, high authorities from both sides enter into dialogue and find out common approaches in the main aspects of international issues.

There are positive legislative and political atmospheres for fruitful cooperation between the Royal Institute for International Relations and the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Both sides underlined the importance of research problems of geostrategic approaches on effectiveness of methods of eradication causes and consequences of modern challenges as terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal migration, and so on.

Research centers play an important role, and they will study an opportunity to cooperate on evaluation of real situation of regional security, stability, in the context of efficiency of political measure for diminution of relevant threats to European Union as well, which are closely connected to Afghan issue.
